We wanted to increase the interest in English Country Dancing among our contra dance friends, and inviting excellent callers to call a weekend of English and contra dancing seemed a fine idea. The web site served as advertising and communication, and let people register online. The weekend was a big success...
The Blackthorn Morris Team started up in 2007 to dance "Border Morris". I played fiddle for the team, and followed them to fun and wacky events until the three leaders moved to New York City so they could go to the opera. Miss you, guys!
The Childgrove Country Dancers web site has been around for a decade or more, and has, over time, gotten built out into a rich source of information for contra dancers throughout the Midwest. Recently it underwent transformation into a Joomla site.
We formed the Webster Groves English Country Dance group in 2009 to expand the opportunities for folks in St Louis to dance English, and became a member of the Childgrove Country Dancers in 2010. We have a bi-monthly dance series and put on four Balls a year, including one at the High Tea weekend. We have developed and encouraged several new English callers, and have enticed quite a few contra dancers over to the Dark Side.
Earthshine Contra is a venture by some wonderful folks in Arcadia, Missouri, who want to encourage the growth of contra dancing among the people who live in that region. The web site helps to promote dancing and old-time Missouri music at an annual festival in the region.
